Quick Start Guide

This guide will get you up and running with IM and Group Chat using Cleartext's EIM Desktop to connect to our XMPP services or compatible 3rd party servers like GTalk. To use our app to connect to public services like Twitter, MSN and Yahoo! you'll need to subscribe to our paid services.
Once you have the application installed and setup, come back and get into some of the articles or video tutorials on the left to get the most out of Cleartext EIM.
Installing Cleartext EIM Desktop
Click the button to the right to install Cleartext EIM Desktop. You'll go through the following 5 easy steps;
- If Adobe AIR is not already installed, we'll install it
- Answer prompts to download & open the app installer
- Once installed the app will start automatically
- Answer "yes" to setup preferences when prompted
- Once setup use the status drop down to login.
Your account details will be sent to your email address by your network administrator. If you aren't a Cleartext business client yet then you will need to use account details from another Jabber/XMPP service provider like Google GTalk or ProcessOne's Talkr.im.
Configuring EIM Desktop
This is the last step to getting online with Cleartext EIM; this is the Preferences Window.
You'll need to fill in the fields in the Account Settings area.
The Global Settings can be left as they are or changed at a later date by clicking on the Preferences icon in the top right of EIM Desktop.
Follow the numbered guidelines below for help with the window above.![]()
- nick name - This field is the name or 'handle' you use online
- profile picture - Select any picture or avatar by clicking on the image
- Account id - This is your full address, for example john@yourdomain.com
- Password - The password you have setup for the above 'jid'
- Server - Server to connect to, default is xmpp.cleartext.net (ask your IT person)
- Port - Port to connect to, default is 5222 (ask your IT person)
You'll see the Status Light next to the Status Dropdown go green when you are online. Now proceed to add buddies by clicking on the 'Add Buddy' button to the bottom left of the application window.![]()
If you are a registered customer and have purchased additional services such as IM and Twitter Gateways, Enterprise Microblogging or Message Archiving please refer to your 'Client Provisioning Notification Form' for further setup information.![]()
