Cleartext Desktop App Features
There are many IM apps for Jabber/XMPP but most are consumer style multi window apps with a buddy list and popup windows for chat. Cleartext identified a need for a desktop application that was as robust as desktop email apps, had a professionally designed user interface and made the most of the services we offer.
The result is Cleartext Desktop which we call our 'Outlook for IM' app and use it for all types of messaging and real time data that's displayed in our Workstream.

Cleartext Desktop brings presence, instant messaging, microblogging and activity streams into one gorgeous interface that is available for Windows, Apple or Linux.
The app is XMPP standards compliant and designed to operate with common XMPP enabled services such as FriendFeed, StatusNet, Jaiku and Yammer.
Cleartext Desktop is tightly integrated with Cleartext EIM SaaS, sign up get the most out it.
IM is a common technology users expect the following minimal functionality;
- One to one instant messaging
- Combined buddy list across all services
- Buddies can be in multiple groups, or none
- Tabbed chat interface with new message notification
- Visual and audible notification of new messages
- Setting IM status across all networks
- Extended status message, e.g. 'having a beer!'
- Chat state notification eg '..is typing...'.
These are all available with our service and most Jabber/XMPP client side software. At Cleartext we have our own desktop software which adds the following features;

Integration with Microblogging
There are similarities between instant messaging and microblogging services like Twitter, but the key difference is that microblogging tweets are broadcast to a public audience, and they aren't always instant!
Cleartext Desktop instant messaging delivers a private chat service and our PUSH microblogging connectivity is delivered via the same desktop or mobile applications.
